About Tetra Butyl Ammonium Nitrate

A quaternary ammonium salt with the chemical formula (C₄H₉)4NNO₃ called tetra butyl ammonium nitrate can be synthesized by the reaction of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide with nitric acid. The resulting product can be purified by a purification process. It is known to be a highly efficient and selective catalyst in several organic transformations. This white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and some organic solvents can be used as a solvent for the dissolution of different polymers, such as cellulose, chitin, and chitosan. It can be used as a phase transfer catalyst, an electrolyte, an additive and an extraction agent.
