Product Description
Monoglyme is a clear, colourless, and highly flammable liquid with a boiling point of 85-86 degree centigrade and a molecular weight of 90.12 g/mol. Also known as 1,2-dimethoxyethane or DME, this organic compound has chemical formula CH3OCH2OCH3 and a mild ether-like odour. It is commonly used as a solvent in various industrial processes, including organic synthesis, polymerization, and electrochemistry. Monoglyme can be synthesized through a Williamson ether synthesis reaction between methanol and ethylene oxide. The synthesis can be carried out by preparing ethylene oxide, and then reacting ethylene oxide with methanol in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is performed under reflux conditions with stirring for several hours, and the resulting product is then purified by distillation or other techniques.
